Discovery Launch

These are some of my best images of the launch of Discovery tonight. Mission #128. 7 astronauts heading for a rendezvous with the space station. This was the 7th from last (6 more) launch of a space shuttle.

The image above was a 15 second exposure using a Lumix.

ABOVE: Another 15 second exposure with a Lumix.

ABOVE and BELOW: Quick shots with a Canon Powershot.

BELOW: A kind of eerie shot seconds after launch. . .as the sky to our east lights up. This with a Canon Rebel. . .not great for night shooting without a tripod. We're about 40 miles east of the Cape.

BELOW: A shot from a much closer perspective. The shuttle is illuminated in the bottom left of this image from nasa.gov, minutes before liftoff. We didn't think it would launch with all that lightning around. Great shot of the lightning here.

BELOW: A close up of the launch.
