There is something fascinating about 100-foot flames so close to the front door. Luckily there were light easterly breezes which carried the embers away from our house.
This fire, last night, was started with a loud explosion (presumably gasoline or military ordinance exploded into the fire pit). We really couldn't enjoy the fire due to the excessive bugs. The atmosphere was thick with biting bugs of all manner, shape, size and voracity.
ABOVE: Some perspective on the location of the fire. That's our front porch in the shot.

The oak tree above the fire is perhaps 50-60 feet tall. The embers went far above the tree and then westward.
BELOW: These 4 shots follow the progression of the fire. I took the first image around 8:30 pm. I gave up around 9:30 pm by which time I had inhaled perhaps 100 bugs.
