Christmas Doves and Renovation Realities

This pair of Mourning Doves (Zenaida macroura) has been hanging around for some time. They were the only living thing on the lawn Christmas Day as the weather turned wet, cool and dreary. 70,000,000 of these birds are shot for sport in the USA every year. Its pretty amazing that any survive.

RENOVATION REALITIES:

We began another renovation project: Restoring the back bedrooms to their original condition. Step one was to rebuild the wall that had been removed between the two largest bedrooms. This project took way longer than we anticipated. The seven photos below follow our long day working on this project. You'll see in some photos that the dogs are helping. . . which helped to slow progress.

The louver doors went first. . . .then the molding around them.

Next, measuring for studs and drywall.

Studs in place. We found some interesting electrical alterations in the ceiling that slowed our progress further. The alterations were shoved up into the ceiling between the walls. Notice that Mr. Moyte is helping here.

Drywall in place. . . it has to be taped and putty applied to match it to the existing wall. This is a painful process. Next sanding in a few days, then repeat.

Removing the wallpaper border was way more trouble than I thought it would be. . . here . . . at then end of day #2 there is a good coat of primer on the once-midnight blue wall.
