Bamboo and rooftop photos

The Giant Bamboo (Arundinaria gigantea (Walter) Muhl.) continues to grow about 1-foot-day. In places it is growing through the pond liner.

ABOVE and BELOW: The bamboo now tops the gazebo and dwarfs me. A shoot started tearing the bottom of the pond today, causing more leakage. In many places the bamboo has moved aside the solid concrete walkway.

The nets protect the fish from herons and hawks.

I replaced a large section of soffit on the Deltona house on Saturday. I've taught myself how to 'build' soffit. It takes a lot of finess and thick gloves to protect my hands. While I was on the roof I took a few shots as its kind of a different view from up there. ABOVE: The middle pond is quite dark at the moment. It needs to be cleaned. On either side of the pond are dead Giant White Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai Regel & Körn). These were killed in the January 2010 freezes.

BELOW: Again, on the roof. . . this time looking north. In bottom left of the image is the first pond. It is almost completely covered with floating plants. The swing is in the bottom of the image. . . the lake looks much larger from up there. . . stretching out in all directions around our cul-de-sac. Our woods are to the right.
