Great Blue Heron

This Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) doesn't like me getting too close. As he flees he looks something like a watercolor on the background of the drying lake.

I was about 1,000 feet from the bird as he found a new spot in the middle of the now-tall swamp grass.

BELOW: Without a telephoto lens one would never know this very large bird was there. He stands at least 4-feet tall and has at least a 6-foot wing span.

BELOW: It is now at least 1,000 feet to water of any depth from our shoreline. It was low 90s today, and still no rain.
