More Florida Birds
These are some of our large Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis), preparing for spring mating and nesting season. Each bird stands about 4' (1.22 meters) tall. They are extremely tame which doesn't bode well for their survival.
Unfortunately this group insists on hanging out in and around a busy highway in Deltona, Florida. I try my best to talk them in to staying in the dry lake beds. . . but they have minds of their own. Perhaps the birds know something we don't about the weather to come. As La NiƱa is waning. . . perhaps our lakes will once again have some water . . . one of these days.
There are three nesting behind the lake house in Deltona, but they are nesting on much higher ground than in years past.
