Sunflowers and Blue Jays

The first crop of sunflowers has reached its peak. It is impressive for mid-April.

Click on any of the images for a larger view.

Below: The pole with the anemometer is 12-feet tall. Who'd have thought we could get flowers that tall in April? The house is in the background.

Above and Below: Of the hundreds of flowers blooming this one was attracting a lot of attention from several different species of bees. An aggressive honey bee finally won the prime spot. I imagine this particular flower smelled the best.

On the west side of the house I have another field of flowers that are starting to bloom. I kind of liked the way the setting sun shone on them (below).

Above and Below: These Blue Jays (Cyanocitta cristata) are very colorful this year. I hope that means something with respect to the weather. . . like rainy days are on the horizon perhaps?
