Christmas Lights in Palm Trees

These are some lazy shots of the full moon with Christmas lights in the palm trees.  I was too lazy to get the tripod out and set the shots correctly. . . so I snapped these free hand this evening.

The full moon maks for some nice effect in the images.

Below:  Again, too lazy to edit out the power lines. . . the rising moon with the palm trees and lights. . . and shot freehand.

I've  been working on some shots of Christmas-lighted palm trees.  Its not as easy as it looks.  Most palm trees are prickly and sharp and one ends up with cuts and scratches trying to put the lights onto the tree.  They look pretty nice after-the-fact.  These African Date Palms (below) are particularly unforgiving with the thorns (12"-long thorns all around) and the fronds are sharp enough to cut one's skin.

Below:  About 1/2 the fence has Christmas lights this year.  20 strings of LEDs stretching about 200 feet.

Below:  One of the santas on a pickle jar.

Below:  One of the Common Persimmon Trees with lights looking up into the full moon. . . again freehand so its a little blurry.

Below:  A more patient shot from 2010 when I edited out the power lines and used a tripod to get this nice effect.

and
for some other Christmas flowers and plants
