Moon and Venus

I've been playing around with long exposures. . . trying to get a nice shot of the Christmas lights with the Moon and Venus.  This was one of my better efforts.  The Moon appears full though it is currently only about 23% Full or a Waxing Crescent.  Venus is below and to the left of the moon.  Click on the image for a larger view.
This is a longer exposure, a little later in the evening, and a day later.  Venus is much lower in the sky.
Here another palm tree with lights got in the way of the shot I wanted.  Venus sits atop the tallest palm tree, not really visible in the shot.

This is Venus and the Moon without anything in the foreground.  In the long exposure the Moon appears full, but is not.

This is a close up of just the Moon as it would appear to the naked eye.

I lost Venus in this shot but still got some of the effect of the Moon.

Tonight I covered the largest of the palms with car covers to protect them from frost.
We're forecast to have low temperatures down to around 40° F (4½° C) tonight which generally results in heavy frost.  We currently are experiencing cool temperatures coupled with an extremely dry air mass and high pressure -- with resultant calm winds -- which are perfect conditions for frost formation.  Frost will damage a lot of the tropical foliage.  The covers protect the plants by giving the frost a different surface on which to adhere.
The cool weather is only supposed to last a couple days, then we're to be back around 80° F (26° C) for New Years Day.
