Erinnyis alope (Alope Sphinx), Jake O'Donnel Photography, and Melissa McCarthy Slays Trump, Again

These Erinnyis alope are feasting on a papaya tree (Carica papya) in the front yard this afternoon. I find it very interesting that the worm-poo looks exactly like papaya seed. Hummmm. . . talk about an evolutionary fluke. . . eat papaya. . .poo payapa seeds. . .

The Alope Sphinx (Erinnyis alope) is a moth of the Family Sphingidae. It occurs from the Northern part of South America, through Florida and the extreme southern USA.

The larva eat Papaya (Carica papya), Nettlespurge (Jatropha), and Allamanda.

I counted a few dozen of the larva. The literature does not explain why the larva occur in green, brown, and various similar colors.
The larvae become something like this white lined sphinx moth, feeding on honeysuckle.
