Ladybird Beetle (Harmonia sp.)

This is likely one of the Harmonia species of ladybird beetles that occurs in Florida. Here pictured on one of the Beauty Berry bushes alongside the garage.

We always referred to these beetles as 'lady bugs' when I was a kid growing up in Central Florida, but I have been corrected by the University of Florida IFAS Extension website. One may read much, much more about these beneficial insects at that website.

The long hot, humid but dry days continue. . .leaving me longing for a trip north. September-October are always the toughest times gardening in Florida. It seems as if its been this hot and buggy forever and that it will never end. When it feels like I can stand no more I come across something like this little beetle. . .which refreshes me and validates the many hours spent daily in the garden.
