This Four-Leaf Vetch (known locally as Sand Vetch) is spreading rapidly across the gardens. Vetch (Vicia acutifolia Elliot), another purple-flowering native plant, is actually quite nice when viewed up close and appreciated for its delicate structure yet hardy nature. This would make a great hanging basket, instead it wishes to cover the garden and . . .unfortunately. . . it will have to be removed.
The Vetches are in the pea family and occur from Alabama to South Carolina to Florida.
There are a number of other delicate purple-blooming natives that have sprouted and begun to rapidly spread this week. . .which I have not yet been able to identify.
