This field of sunflower are blooming on the west side. They were a bit droopy today with rain. We had about 1.25" today.
Another rainbow, minutes ago . . . it looks like the rainbow is coming out of the top of the queen palm by the swimming pool.

This Serrano Pepper (Capiscum annum) is about 4' tall. I had not noticed the fruit until today during the heavy rain. The serrano pepper is a type of chili pepper that originated in the mountainous regions of the Mexican states of Puebla and Hidalgo. Unripe serranos are green, but the color at maturity varies. Common colors are red, brown, orange, or yellow. Serranos are very meaty and thus they do not dry very well. They are generally between 1 and 4 inches long (2.5 to 10 cm) and around ½ inch (1 cm) wide.

I also noticed these Watermelons for the first time today. Watermelon are in the family Cucurbitaceae – Cucumber family, Genus Citrullus Schrad. Watermelon do not normally grow well in Florida, mid-summer. These are vining underneath a field of sunflower. . . which probably helped them survive the heat.

Below, the large mango tree continues its recovery from the freezes, 4 months ago. The red and purple leaves are the most recent new growth.

The backyard is beginning to recover from the freezes. Unfortunately I spend most of my free time cutting exotic grasses that overgrow everything. The new banana trees are filling in nicely. The gazebo remains unfinished. Perhaps we'll get to work on it this long weekend.
