Camouflage?

ABOVE: This Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) thinks that I cannot see him. He is, incorrect. He held this position for at least an hour today. It had to be uncomfortable. I got some excellent shots of his mirror image in the glass-like lake.

ABOVE: I was worried that the big Banded Water Snake (Nerodia fasciata pictiventris) might be lonely. . . the one that's been around all summer scaring me periodically. . . 5' long and thick. . . I discovered he is not alone. I photographed three different babies today. They all like a fern that is growing in and out of the middle pond. They are maybe 6-8" long. They too think that if they are very still. . .that I cannot see them.

ABOVE: An American green tree frog (Hyla cinerea) blends in nicely with the green and yellow siding on the house. . . but I still see him. He is about as big as my thumb.

ABOVE: A larger Great Blue Heron. Not as great a shot. . . that's a big bird. Perhaps 4' tall with a 6' wingspan.

ABOVE and BELOW: Two more banded water snakes. . . they all want that position on the fern.

BELOW: An unidentified spotted moth. . . no bigger than the end of my index finger. I could see him looking at me. . . he blends in well with the siding on the back of the house.
