Saddleback Caterpillars

ABOVE: I like this overexposed photo of the fire pit tonight. Its getting harder to get a shot of the fires as the tropical landscaping fills in. There is a fire in there. . .in the middle of the shot. The camera is aimed south. The temperature was about 75 F. at 10:00 pm. It was balmy and buggy. I could only stay out for a few shots before I was ambushed by clouds of mosquitoes.

ABOVE and BELOW: The Saddleback caterpillars, Sabine stimulea (Clemus), are back. We haven't seen these for some months. I found these two this evening by accident while trimming the hedges along the fence. I have a painful sting from one of these little guys.

BELOW: The caterpillar to scale. . .he's in the middle-LEFT of the shot near the darkest of the branches on these banana trees ('French plantain' (Musa ×paradisiaca L. (pro sp.) [acuminata × balbisiana] ).
