Florida Wildflowers

ABOVE: I'm letting the Rattlebox (Crotalaria spectabilis Roth) grow wherever they like. This one is in the middle of one of my concrete sidewalks. They are spectacular and very, very tough. . . the perfect plant for a difficult environment.

ABOVE: I've let about 1/2 acre of Hat Pins (Eriocaulon compressum Lam.) take over the berm above the lake. I love laying in them trying to imagine a world where these flowers were trees. . . something like what this photo imagines.

ABOVE: My second favorite spring flower, the Sensitive Plant or Shame Flower (Mimosa microphylla or Mimosa pudica) are in full bloom now. They are tiny. I'll have to get some shots with my hand in there for scale. . . but then that would destroy the image. I find them quite whimsical.
