This is Nicerbean Blue (Cyclargus ammon) rarely documented this far north.
He was feasting on False Hoarhound (Eupatorium rotundifolium) that I've let grow up around one of the ponds in Deltona. I suffered a couple of wasp stings on my shoulders and a tick bite on my back trying to get these images. The little guy blended so well with the surroundings it took awhile to get in a position to make a good image.
Loss of habitat due to urbanization has nearly extricated this butterfly from the Florida peninsula. Its Nature Serve Global Status is G3 or very rare and threatened throughout its range. It has found a good home in our woods. . . if now we can only find him a mate.
