Frigid Florida
A couple of ice crystals (snowflakes) suspended on a spider web in extreme close up this morning. . . with some intense sunlight clouding the image as it reflects off a ripe orange to the right.
There are currently 15 urgent weather watches or warnings for the peninsula of Florida. It makes for a brightly colored map. The dark blue indicates a hard freeze warning which takes precedent over the other 14 warnings for our area. Lavender over the Atlantic Ocean indicates a gale warning. Suffice to say it is not a good boating day in Florida.
Current predictions are for temperatures in the low 20°s F. (-5° to -6° C.) in our area tonight. It does not look good for the palms and other tropical vegetation that survived the last two cold winters. This weather presents more anecdotal evidence of the global warming paradox. It will take many more cold winters to definitively prove that our climate has changed.
Only the immediate Miami area is forecast to escape tonight's hard freeze. It is currently predicted that temperatures will be in the 37° F. (2.7° C.) range tonight in Miami metro area.
