When threatened the anole changes color to various shades of brown. They generally remain perfectly still but their color change reveals their fear. |
Kind of an in-your-face shot. . . |
Lunch. . . some sort of bug. Typically the anole's diet consists of small insects like crickets and grasshoppers. They may also eat some plants and grasses. |

Every Instagram community is unique, with its own hashtags, content and style. We’ve already discussed the fitness and fashion and beauty communities, and wanted to take a look next at how Instagram talks about pets.
People love their pets, and they love sharing photos of them on Instagram using the hashtag #petstagram. Using our Union Metrics Instagram analytics we took a look at recent activity on the #petstagram hashtag. Around 14,000 new #petstagram posts are shared each day on Instagram (13k photos and 1k videos) from 9500 people. Those posts generate a reach of 10M Instagram accounts each day!
And surprisingly, Instagram seems to prefer dogs over cats. Don’t believe us? Read on to see what we learned about how people talk about their pets on Instagram.
The top recent #petstagram post is this adorable puppy "Java" (above) posted by pitbullsofinstagram, one of the most popular publishers using this hashtag. Many of their recent photos have received 20,000 or more likes.
In general, puppies are pretty popular on Instagram (shocking, right?). Most of the posts using the #petstagram hashtag are cute or funny pictures of animals, particularly dogs. The most popular photos are high-quality photographs showing a pet in an adorable situation, like making a funny face, wearing a costume or making eye contact with the camera.
The most popular pet content on Instagram is overwhelmingly canine. Instagram prefers dogs over cats. Nine of the current top 10 posts in the #petstagram conversation include a dog. Only two of the top 10 posts include a cat, and one of those also includes a dog. The #dog tag is used more often than the #cat tag. Other dog-related tags include #dogstagram, #dogsofinstagram, #ilovemydog and #dogoftheday.
But don’t worry, cat lovers - Instagram loves your pets, too! The #catsofinstagram, #cat, #cats, and #instacat hashtags are wildly popular and filled with adorable felines. What other hashtags do pet lovers use on Instagram? In addition to #petstagram and animal-specific hashtags, they use others like #pet, #pets, #animal, #cute, #nature and more. You can see a list of some of those here.
If you’re interested in reaching the pets community on Instagram, take the time to craft content they will be interested in, and use these hashtags to get it in front of as many interested eyes as possible.
